A Multiplexed Microfluidic Platform for Bone Marker Measurement: A Proof-of-Concept

In this work, we report a microfluidic platform that can be easily translated into a biomarker diagnostic. This platform integrates microfluidic technology with electrochemical sensing and embodies a reaction/detection chamber to measure serum levels of different biomarkers. Microfabricated Au electrodes encased in a microfluidic chamber are functionalized to immobilize the antibodies, which ca...

Synthetic microfluidic paper: high surface area and high porosity polymer micropillar arrays.

We introduce Synthetic Microfluidic Paper, a novel porous material for microfluidic applications that consists of an OSTE polymer that is photostructured in a well-controlled geometry of slanted and interlocked micropillars. We demonstrate the distinct benefits of Synthetic Microfluidic Paper over other porous microfluidic materials, such as nitrocellulose, traditional paper and straight microp...

Design and fabrication of magnetically functionalized flexible micropillar arrays for rapid and controllable microfluidic mixing.

Magnetically functionalized PDMS-based micropillar arrays have been successfully designed, fabricated and implanted for controllable microfluidic mixing. The arrangement of PDMS micropillar arrays inside the microchannel can be flexibly controlled by an external magnetic field. As a consequence, the flow fields inside the microchannel can be regulated at will via magnetic activation convenientl...

The Effect of Black Seed Oil as Adjuvant Therapy on Nuclear Factor Erythroid 2-Related Factor 2 Levels in Patients with Metabolic Syndrome Risk

Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is one of the transcription factors involved in providing endogenous antioxidants. Black seed oil (BSO), suspected have antioxidant effects that can be used to modulate the expression and levels of Nrf2. The study aims to determine the effect of BSO as adjuvant therapy on levels of Nrf2 to the patients with metabolic syndrome risk. The re...

Smartphone-interfaced lab-on-a-chip devices for field-deployable enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

The emerging technologies on mobile-based diagnosis and bioanalytical detection have enabled powerful laboratory assays such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to be conducted in field-use lab-on-a-chip devices. In this paper, we present a low-cost universal serial bus (USB)-interfaced mobile platform to perform microfluidic ELISA operations in detecting the presence and concentration...
